Is Trader Joe’s Skin Care Good? A Seven-Day Experiment with Seven Products.

If you know me or you’ve been watching my YouTube channel you probably know that I’m kind of obsessed with Trader Joe’s. I shop there every week and it’s pretty much my favorite store!

For a while now, I’ve been really curious to try Trader Joe’s skin care and personal care products – I feel like every time I go, they have something new. I’ve tried some of their beauty products over the years, but I’ve always wanted to try more, so last week I decided to switch to an all-Trader-Joe’s skincare routine and see how the products compare to what I usually use.

Check out my video review, if you don’t feel like reading:

Here is everything that I bought and how much I paid:

Trader Joe’s Nourish All-in-one-facial Cleanser: $5.99

Trader Joe’s Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer: $8.99

Trader Joe’s Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub: $5.99

Trader Joe’s Refresh Citrus Body Wash: $2.99

Trader Joe’s Lavender Salt Scrub: $5.99

Trader Joe’s Cucumber Avocado Body Butter: $4.99

Trader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter: $5.49

First of all, look at these prices! You get a good amount of product for under $10.

So, as part of my new Trader Joe’s skincare routine, I used the cleanser, moisturizer, body wash, and rotated the body butters every day. I used the facial scrub twice during the week and the body scrub – once. My skin has been doing pretty well lately, meaning almost no breakouts and these products didn’t change that, so overall I approve all of them.

Here is what I thought of each product in more detail:

Facial Cleanser: Rating 4/5

This cleanser was pretty standard and comparable to more expensive ones that I’ve tried. It felt very gentle and cleansed my skin very well without stripping it out of its moisture. It had no fragrance which is a good thing since fragrance can be one of those toxic ingredients in beauty products. I will continue using this product.

Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer: Rating 3/5

This moisturizer was definitely not bad, it worked perfectly fine. Like the cleanser, it was fragrance-free, but had a distinctive scent that I wasn’t a huge fan of. I also felt like it wasn’t “ultra hydrating” as it claimed, I expected a little bit more in that department. But it soaked up pretty quickly and was decently hydrating. I probably wouldn’t repurchase, but it’s a good option if you want a decent moisturizer that doesn’t cost a ton of money.

Refresh Citrus Body Wash: Rating 4/5

There’s not much to say, it was a pretty standard body wash. I LOVED the scent though since I love everything grapefruit. If you’re a fan of citrusy smells, you’d certainly enjoy this.

Coconut Body Butter: Rating 5/5

This is my new obsession! It smells like coconut ice cream and the consistency of it is AMAZING – it’s super easy to spread, soaks up very quckly and leaves your skin super soft and hydrated. 10/10 would buy again!

Cucumber Avocado Body Butter: Rating 3/5

I can’t say that I didn’t like this product, but I liked it way less than the coconut butter. It smelled nice, it kind of reminded me of melon/watermelon scent, which I personally don’t like that much. It was decently hydrating, but not as much as the coconut body butter. In this case, for me it boils down to the scent – if you like that type of scent, you’ll love it.

Lavender Salt Scrub: Rating 4/5

I have mixed feelings about this product… it was actually really, really good. It felt like nothing I’ve used before – it exfoliated great and was incredibly hydrating, but it made my shower floor super oily and messy. The first (and only) time that I used it, there was a layer of oil accumulated at the top which is now gone, so it might have been because of that. I’ll update this blog post as I continue using it. Otherwise, I was really impressed with this product.

Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub: Rating 5/5

My other favorite that came out of this experiment was the blueberry & acai facial scrub. It was very gentle, but at the same time I felt like it was effective – my skin was softer and well exfoliated after using it. But, my favorite thing about this scrub was definitely the scent – it was heavenly! It smelled like a blueberry dessert which made for a very pleasant experience – 10/10 recommend!

Have you tried Trader Joe’s skin care or personal care products? What are some of your favorites?
